Light therapy is one of the newest skincare and anti-aging treatment options on the market. Prior to the approval from the Federal Drug Administration, persons wishing to use light therapy as an anti-wrinkle treatment had to have the procedure done by a physician. However, the FDA’s approval of the Light BioScience treatment means that consumers can now purchase the items needed over-the-counter.
Light BioScience says the technology works by stimulating the production of collagen while zeroing on fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, the company said that they are now the first company to gain approval to market a device that treats wrinkles around the eyes.
I spoke to Rick Krupnick at LifeBioSciences who informed me that they're not ready to announce the availability date or the pricing of the appliance. Clearly they're waiting to see what sort of interest they will generate with their announcement.
This is what the website tells us about the product:
GentleWaves® Elite features a contoured panel of more than 800 specially designed amber colored LEDs. The secret behind the GentleWaves® system is our patented pulse coded treatment. These pulsating lights are specifically coded to stimulate collagen production while slowing down the collagen breakdown.
With its portable design and easy-to-use hand piece, GentleWaves® Elite allows estheticians to zero in and alter collagen formation without heat or causing cellular injury.
GentleWaves® is the perfect complement to any esthetic and anti-aging treatment of the face, neck, chest, décolleté and hands. GentleWaves® can also be used as an add on service to facials, microdermabrasions, chemical peels, waxing services and laser treatments.
